Norway: The way leading to the north

Oslo
(Capital of Norway)

It sounds funny, but the first time i heard about this country was in a YouTube video made by ElrubiusOMG. In that video he shows the place where he grew up, and my first impressions were a lonely city with a enormous amount of snow and numerous hills colored of green and white. For me (a person who does'nt like warm climates and prefer empty places instead of crowds), was simply perfect.

What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of Norway? Exactly! Vikings. The Viking Age takes part of the history of the country. They were characterised by they tough attitude and of course their technology. Norway across the history was categorized like a cold and infertile land (not so far from the reality) and the vikings had to adapt, hence the developent of the longship, one of the greatest solutions to the lack of suitable farming. This invention made this civilization able to explore and raid differents islands and countries, made them survive. And it even became a symbol of their culture.

Nowdays, Norway is one of the most developed countries, with the sixth highest per capita in the world. The norwegian economy is sustained by the oil industry, with reserves of petroleum and gas that were discovered in the 1960s (this was a huge boost to their economy). But even all of that, Norway was the first country that banned deforestation in 2014 (is crazy to imagine that this decision was taken only nine years ago, and not many years ago!). Thanks to that, we will still be allowed to enjoy this marvelous paradise that mixes a developed culture with a beautiful nature.

I hope in the future I can make the dreams of that ten years old boy come true.
